Congregation of Preshitharam Sisters (C.P.S) founded by Fr. George Kochuparambil a diocesan priest of the Arch diocese of Ernakulam – Angamaly on 25 August 1964 as Preshitharam Catechetical Institute Kalady, for training of women for catechetical instruction in Parishes of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam Angamaly is now entering in to the 57th year of its existence. This pious union having as its specific goal proclaiming of Christ and his message to everyone and serving  Him through the dedicated service of its members to the poor and the sick, the weak and the helpless, the suffering and the uneducated in accordance with the motto “Serve the poor in Christ”(Lk:4:18) was erected as the Congregation of Preshitharam Sisters of Eparchial Right on 8th December 1977 under the guidance and with the blessing of Mar Joseph Cardinal Parecattil, the then Archbishop of Ernakulam and with the approval of the Holy see.

On April 26, 1982, our founder Rev. Fr. George Kochuparambil was called for eternal rest. After the demise of Fr. George Kochuparambil, Cardinal Parecattil appointed Rev. Fr. George Kammattil VC the then Superior General of the Vincentian Congregation as the director of the Preshitharam Congregation on 19th March 1984.

Living our specific charism “Serve the poor in Christ”, The Congregation of Preshitharam Sisters are engaged ourselves in three different fields of apostolate, namely Faith formation, House visits, and primary education of the children.  Keeping the spirit of founder we are serving in the Institutions of  Physically and mentally challenged children, Home for the aged, Orphanages, Hostels for the working women, Daycare, Days shelters for old people, and the tailoring centers. At present we extended our services in 16 diocese in India and abroad.

Now the congregation has completed 57 years of the service in the church. His Beatitude Mar George Cardinal Alencherry the Major Archbishop of the Syro – Malabar Church granted the Major Archiepiscopal Status to the congregation of Preshitharam Sisters in 2013.

The service of Preshitharam Sisters at Edappally.

Answering the call of Jesus we dedicate our life to the services to the poor and marginalized as envisaged by our founder. The God Almighty blessed us with a branch house of Preshitharam Sisters under the Forane Church at Edappally in the Arch Diocese of Ernakulam –Angamaly in 1996.  The sisters are engaged in the Parish ministries as well as the in the hospital ministries. We also run a hostel for the women.
